East Tokyo United (ETU) a former top in Japan football league for a few years, is struggling and takes everything to avoid relegation (a team moving from different division from higher division to lower division). To make things worse the ETU team lost 5 games straight, that led to low team morale or spirit, even the fans started to abandon them and the home ground rumors the municipality will withdraw their support to the whole team. The team management fired a lot of coaches and a poor financial choice in hiring players, a real downfall to the whole ETU team. General Manager Kousei Gotou is under pressure from the board of directors.

GM Kousei takes a big gamble and hires a new coach, the former player of ETU Takeshi Tatsumi. Takeshi was considered a great football player when he was younger but because he abandoned the ETU team years ago, it seems the fans hate it and called him a traitor. However, Takeshi's record is already proof that he himself brings glory to one of England's lower division amateur teams. Takeshi’s new task won’t be an easy start because first of all ETU fans call him a traitor, and the team is pitted against each other because of large budgets and better player setting. But for Takeshi even the underdog can take down a goliath and he is an expert for GIANT KILLING.

GIANT KILLING story focuses on East Tokyo United football club, on the verge of relegation because of poor performance from a former top soccer league to its worse state. General Manager Kousei Gotou is been pressured by the board of directors to survive the current state of the whole team, GM Kousei makes a big gamble to hire a new coach for the team to return its former glory in the face of Takeshi Tatsumi a former player of ETU and one of the greatest soccer players when he is still young. Takeshi a former football player of ETU returns not as a player but a coach who knows for its GIANT KILLING, he already proves it when he manages one of England's lower division amateur teams by bringing it to its glory of winning against the bigger teams around. But the one of the problems that Takeshi must face is that he himself is been called a traitor by the fans of ETU when he all of a sudden left the whole team before and to make it worse the players are pitted against each other.

GIANT KILLING animation is produced by Studio Deen and did a good job for its anime series, full of action and smooth animation for football fans around. A good sports action and a lot of things happening around the court and great smooth silk moves for every move execution is something I really look forward to in this kind of sport. A lot of things happening around not just the story goes but the great art of every play execution is the highlight of this anime series. For the music choice a simple but amazing if you always listening from the start till the end, opening song bit of upbeat but rhythm and easy to listen and the feel of this is a sport with a lot of things happening a real GIANT KILLING, and for the ending song easy one to remember because its stays on the whole story track of how to slay a strong team around by a great team work and execution is all about.

GIANT KILLING deserves a good anime recommendation in terms of a great sports anime to watch and if you are a fan of football or soccer this anime is for you. Anime or manga? First of all, I only learned the series from anime adaptation and after watching the whole series, made me a fan and gave me a reason to read the manga series. The manga series is also good to read not just to continue the story but also shows how really good the story is for this sports type genre. Is GIANT KILLING an underrated anime series? Nope, not at all a great rate for sports anime genre is something hard to find but at the same time the good story is one of the highlights of the series and the animation of the story is really good for every play execution in the court and how Takeshi create a solid play to slay a strong team is the real deal for the whole anime series. A good score for a sports anime series because of its good story execution and highlights most of the great parts of the story. GIANT KILLING a sports anime about football and how to overcome a strong wall or team in front and execution of a real kill or rather a big win against the odds.
