Elfen Lied

Elfen Lied is one of the great anime series from 2004 based on a manga story written and illustrated by Lynn Okamoto. Anime adaptation of Elfen Lied is produced by “Arms” and here’s some popular titles behind its studio like Maoyuu Maou Yuusha, Hagure Yuusha no Aesthetica and Gokukoku no Brynhildr. Elfen Lied consists of 13 episodes, runs about 25 minutes per episode and aired from July 2004 till October 2004. Opening song “Lilium” performed by Kumiko Noma. Ending song “Be Your Girl” performed by Chieko Kawabe. The Elfen Lied anime series is directed by Mamoru Kanbe.

Lucy is a special breed of human or also known as “Diclonius” a human born with a pair of horns with a special ability of invisibility telekinetic hands. Lucy is a victim of an inhuman experiment by the government. One day an opportunity rises in front of Lucy to escape the facility where she’s been tortured all her life. A revenge but at the same time for Lucy an escape is her priority at all where everyone who tries to stop her is being punished or killed by her ability. While escaping Lucy receives a head injury.
Lucy's head injury caused a split personality and she stumbled in front of two college students named Kouta and with his cousin Yuka. Kouta and Yuka decide to take care of Lucy with her injuries and are unaware of the special ability of Lucy. Lucy saw a change in her surroundings with Kouta and Yuka who not just helped her but also took care of her and showed a great kindness that she never experienced inside the facility. Kouta and Yuka will be soon dragged in the dark side of the government secrecy because of helping a fugitive Lucy into their care.
Elfen Lied a story of Lucy where she escaped and looking for her freedom and unfair treatment she experienced inside the facility and all of her life is all about experiment, when she finds an opportunity to escape she grabs it and uses her ability to clear her way while escaping in the government facility. A tragic story to begin with but it’s also a change of heart of Lucy when she free herself away from the facility who lives her whole life inside that builds up a big hatred of humans around, but starts to change when she meets Kouta and Yuka who took care of someone like her.
Elfen Lied animation series is produced by Arms studio did a good job while the manga story is still ongoing and based the story in the first 7 volumes with few alter and exclusive anime ending a better fit for the anime series itself, but in one interview from the director itself expressed a bit disappointment because of 13 episodes and it feels lack of the plot details to deliver the whole story. Music choice is so amazing and well suited to its theme, a drama that you can feel by just listening to the opening and ending song played in the whole series.

Elfen Lied deserves a great anime recommendation in terms of story. This is a real drama with a supernatural touch because Lucy is not your ordinary human and a bit psychological because of the life experience of Lucy inside the facility. Anime or manga? Manga story is great start but watching the whole anime series is also good just to know the story line of Elfen Lied they made it possible at all because of a bit of alter to be well fit in anime series, but if you want to know more or the deep detail story reading the manga is the best choice. Is Elfen Lied an overrated anime series? Nope, not at all because the story is good at all even though the manga series is still ongoing, they did an amazing job to fit everything for anime which is also good and different ending is the reason for the whole series. Will Elfen Lied get a remake of the anime series? To be honest I don’t know about it, but it will happen in the future so be it and the series also deserves a remake because the manga story is already done. Elfen Lied is a great anime to watch, the story is a real drama. It is hard to miss this one of a kind story and life is not an experiment but to treasure the life you got.
