Lucky Star, one of the anime becomes a trend out of nowhere for the year 2007, it’s a miracle but for some reason a lot to be seen after each episode. Lucky Star is original manga or 4-koma manga mostly known for a gag manga or the 4-panel manga. 4-koma is well known for a gag story and has been used a lot not just in Japan but the whole world. Lucky Star anime adaptation of Kyoto Animation is an unexpected move from KyoAni Production because they are well known for their own style of story and originality and most adaptations, they do mostly on different genres of story more on drama and slice of life.
Some of Kyoto Animation's popular title series they produced include Hyouka, Clannad, Koe no Katachi, Kyoukai no Kanata and Violet Evergarden. Opening song of “Motteke! Sailor Fuku” performed by Aya Hirano, Emiri Katou, Kaori Fukuhara and Aya Endou. Ending songs of Lucky Star a lot to be seen and performed by a lot of different artists, one episode different ending song. It made me want to watch every ending song because of the different song set they put into it. Lucky Star has 24 episodes and runs around 24 minutes per episode. The first director Yutaka Yamamoto for episode 1 – 4 and Yasuhiro Takemoto for episode 5 – 24.
Lucky Star's story revolves around the four characters Konata Izumi the lazy otaku, Kagami Hiragi the hard-working class president, her twin sister Tsukasa Hiragi the sweet one and Miyuki Takara the smartest in the group. Story of Lucky Star is the daily life of the four student most of the series focus on Izumi Konata the otaku easy going on the said group, also a classmate of Tsukasa Hiragi and Miyuki Takara, every break time at school Kagami Hiragi joins the group to interact not only to her twin sister but also to Izumi and Miyuki.
Lucky Star mostly shows how fun they interact to each one even if they have differences in everyday life but also shows how they enjoy being with each other side by side on the summer trip, an overnight stay at home and joining others to accompany the friend in need. From the start it feels dry or lacks the comedy side that I saw in the manga but after the 4 episodes the change of director is also a good move and a great change throughout the whole season. The failed first 4 episodes are a bit hard to forget for the start of the series and I can call it a lucky or great move to change a director and also the change of pace on the story and feels more the fun and not the bored old joke. Nothing against the director but I feel the waste for the first 4 episodes, but it's already done in the past just enjoy the episode 5 onwards. The strong point of Lucky Star is the parodies became a common norm at that time. As a fan of parody, I enjoyed it a lot.
Lucky Star in terms of animation is good and the change of director from the first 4 episodes to the rest of the series is the best thing KyoAni has done. One reason I can see for the change of director because of the pace of the series it’s the feel of lack of punch to hit the comedy part or the slow move and hard to watch after the first episode, is like can I give it some time or it’s a slow start. It’s done no need to dwell on it but it’s fun to watch something for the love of humor and parody. In terms of music it's refreshing to listen to different ending music of the Lucky Star and a lot of artists performed it.
Lucky Star deserves a decent recommendation, for the fun factor and some parody, an event outlook for Japan's big event because Izumi Konata is a real otaku. The explanation of otaku life is what gets me to watch the series and the interactive dialogue of Izumi and Kagami is the fun part for me. For the people who are looking for a seasonal comedy Lucky Star is a good one to choose. Can I skip the four episodes? I think you can skip but it’s the introduction of the character. Did I skip the four episodes? nope I don’t I just watch it at different times for some recharge of inner feeling. Lucky Star is a good series on a different level, no need to hype but it's a good thing to watch for a different pace and KyoAni did a good job in this series.
